Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho sworn in as Ol Kalou MP
By Mabonga Makhanu, July 28, 2026Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho has officially been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou following his landslide victory in the recent by-election, where he overwhelmingly defeated his UDA rival.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, marked the first order of business in the day’s parliamentary proceedings.
Ngotho was escorted to the Speaker’s podium by Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia and Roysambu MP Mwafrika before taking the oath of office.
“I, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, having been elected a member of the National Assembly, do swear in the name of the Almighty God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya, that I will obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya, and that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a member of Parliament. “So help me God,” Kamau Ngotho pledged.
During the ceremony, the newly elected legislator pledged to faithfully serve the people of Ol Kalou, uphold and protect the Constitution, and diligently discharge the duties of his office in accordance with the law.
After taking the oath, Ngotho signed the official oath register, formally assuming office as the constituency’s Member of Parliament. He appeared visibly delighted as he completed the swearing-in process, marking the beginning of his parliamentary tenure.
DCP members dons party colours
Videos shared by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia ahead of the ceremony showed the leaders dressed in coordinated party attire. Male leaders wore green blazers paired with grey trousers, while their female counterparts donned green blazers and skirts, with some, including Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara, opting for green trousers.
The leaders later posed for a group photograph outside Parliament Buildings before chanting anti-incumbency and opposition slogans in a show of party unity.
Ngotho’s travel to Parliament
Ngotho’s swearing-in came after a dramatic start to the day, with the MP-elect opting to travel from Ol Kalou to Nairobi aboard a public matatu for the ceremony. Throughout the journey, he remained in high spirits as supporters and residents congratulated him on his victory.
The DCP delegation was led by the party’s secretary general-designate and Nyandarua senator John Methu, who spearheaded the party’s successful Ol Kalou by-election campaign. Other leaders present included Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, Starehe MP Amos Mwago, Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto and several other party officials and elected leaders.
DCP Olkalou win celebrations
The party has remained in a celebratory mood since its landslide victory in the Ol Kalou by-election, where Ngotho secured more than 85 per cent of the votes cast to become the constituency’s new MP.
In the previous week, DCP senators also attracted national attention after attending Senate sittings dressed in similar green party attire to celebrate the party’s victory in Ol Kalou. Their appearance drew reactions from fellow legislators, with Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot poking fun at the group and likening them to “grasshoppers” because of their green outfits.
