Salasya to Ruto: State House is not a personal residence
Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has come out to slam President William Ruto’s decision to hold the ruling party’s events in State House, a move that he says undermines the status of the house.
Taking it to his social media handle on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Salasya noted that the State House is an institution held for public trust and is financed by the state and a symbol of national unity, and it should therefore be held in high regard.
“President William Ruto must be reminded firmly and without apology that State House is not a personal residence, and it is not a partisan political asset. It is a constitutional institution held in trust for the Republic, financed by public funds, protected by national security, and symbolically reserved for the service and unity of all Kenyans,” Salasya noted.

“When the State House is routinely converted into a UDA political theatre, complete with party colours, partisan gatherings, and choreographed propaganda, it amounts to a gross abuse of office, a violation of the doctrine of public trust, and a deliberate collapse of the neutrality expected of the Presidency,” Salasya added.
The Mumias East lawmaker further argued that the president occupies State House temporarily under the authority of the Constitution and with a duty to exercise power in a manner that is lawful, impartial, and dignified.
He noted that the capture of state institutions by President Ruto is reckless and has caused the country economic sabotage, where citizens are overtaxed, livelihoods are crushed, and public suffering is treated like collateral damage.
Salasya has since called on the president to stop running the country as a private company, a campaign project, or a family enterprise.

He has said that the presidency should be treated as a national symbol and should avoid partisan interests.
Salasya’s statement has come at a time when the president is holding a United Democratic Alliance Aspirants forum in State House. Previously, the President has also hosted many delegate meetings for the UDA party.
Ruto has also hosted economic empowerment forums in State House.
