Salasya to Ruto: Silence on hospital collapse kills your war on corruption
By Kiprono Keileb, August 29, 2025Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, calling him out for looking away as corruption and neglect cripple healthcare services in western Kenya.
Salasya argued that the collapse of Mumias Hospital is a symbol of government failure, warning that Ruto’s silence could bury his promised war on graft.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his X account on Friday, August 29, 2025, Salasya put the responsibility squarely on the Head of State, questioning why the decline in healthcare has intensified under his watch.
“It’s only happening under your leadership, William Samoei Ruto, why?” Salasya posed, insisting that the president cannot continue to ignore the rot while ordinary citizens suffer.
He painted a grim picture of the situation on the ground, lamenting how patients are now forced to pay up front before receiving medical care.
“Today, the reality is harsh: if you don’t pay cash upfront, your patient will die on the bench waiting for treatment in vain. That is how far our healthcare has sunk,” he stated

Billions lost, lives at stake
Salasya also called out government agencies for looting funds meant to sustain health facilities, citing specific figures that underline the crisis. He said that Mumias Hospital required Ksh15 million monthly to operate, but was allocated only Ksh1.5 million, while billions vanished into officials’ pockets.
“Stolen funds amounting to Ksh143 million and another Ksh40 million unaccounted for in SHA have left hospitals gasping for survival, yet officials walk free with billions,” he charged.
The lawmaker also called out Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, saying his silence has betrayed the people
“Aden Duale, your silence and empty rhetoric have betrayed the people,” he declared.
A warning to Ruto
Salasya reminded the president of his campaign vow to lead a frontline fight against corruption but accused him of complicity through inaction.
“President, this is a direct warning: if you cannot confront and stop the rot in SHA, then your war on corruption is dead on arrival. Your silence will be interpreted as approval,” he warned.
The MP concluded with a stark message: “The same people who cheered you into office will be the ones to send you home for betraying their trust. Kenyans are watching, and history will not forgive you for looking away while lives are lost on hospital benches.”
