Salasya threatens to censure Wetang’ula over Kenya Kwanza politics
Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has issued a stern warning to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, daring him to attend any political gathering aligned with Kenya Kwanza’s economic empowerment agenda.
Taking to his official social media accounts on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, night, Salasya said he is ready to initiate a censure motion to remove Wetang’ula from his position if the Speaker continues engaging in partisan politics instead of safeguarding the independence of Parliament.
“I dare Wetang’ula to attend any political meeting of economic empowerment of Kenya Kwanza. I will myself censure a motion for his removal from speakership so that he can proceed with politics and leave the speaker position to someone who will bring back sanity to the National Assembly,” Salasya declared.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term MP further accused Wetang’ula of serving the interests of the Executive rather than defending the autonomy of the legislature.
According to him, the Speaker’s participation in political rallies undermines the integrity and neutrality required of the office.
Drafting ouster motion
Salasya has also vowed to hire top legal minds to draft the motion, promising that his case against Wetang’ula would be “airtight and unshakeable.”
“We can’t have a speaker whose interest is to serve the executive. I will hire a lawyer more powerful than Mutuse to draft me those allegations. Am waiting to see him in a political rally this weekend tuone mara hii,” he stated.

Khalwale’s warning
Salasya’s remarks come weeks after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale warned Wetang’ula of a lack of neutrality by acting as an agent of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
While speaking during a Senate proceeding on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Khalwale challenged the Speaker of the National Assembly to stop taking sides.
“Instead of observing Article 1, the speaker of the National Assembly is participating in the so-called empowerment functions, where they dish out money. Wetang’ula is behaving like an agent of the United Democratic Alliance. Tomorrow I will come with evidence,” he said.
Khalwale further argued that Wetang’ula has been acting as President William Ruto’s errand boy, compromising his office’s integrity.
