Salasya tells MPs to reject State House PGs and stop being Ruto’s yes-men

By , August 22, 2025

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on the leadership of the 13th Parliament, accusing them of blindly following President William Ruto instead of asserting their independence.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Salasya criticised MPs currently attending a parliamentary retreat in Mombasa, saying they risk losing respect if they continue acting like “sheep” in the name of supporting government functions such as women’s economic empowerment programmes.

Subordinates of the Executive

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term MP warned that by allowing themselves to be used as political tools, legislators were reducing themselves to mere subordinates of the Executive.

“Leadership of the 13th parliament in their retreat in Mombasa should be told to stop following executives like sheep in their functions of women’s economic empowerment ndio waheshimike. Ama Ruto atazidi kuwaona kama takataka na kinyesi; atakuwa akiwaita mkutano kama watoto wake na tena awatusi vilivyo,” Salasya stated.

The outspoken MP further demanded that parliamentary group (PG) meetings should never be held at State House, terming it illegal and unconstitutional.

“They should also agree to no PG to be held at the State House, as it’s illegal,” Salasya wrote on X.

Salasya dares Wetang’ula

Salasya’s remarks come a day after he issued a stern warning to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, daring him to attend any political gathering aligned with Kenya Kwanza’s economic empowerment agenda.

Taking to his official social media accounts on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, night, Salasya said he is ready to initiate a censure motion to remove Wetang’ula from his position if the Speaker continues engaging in partisan politics instead of safeguarding the independence of Parliament.

“I dare Wetang’ula to attend any political meeting of economic empowerment of Kenya Kwanza. I will myself censure a motion for his removal from speakership so that he can proceed with politics and leave the speaker position to someone who will bring back sanity to the National Assembly,” Salasya declared.

He further accused Wetang’ula of serving the interests of the Executive rather than defending the autonomy of the legislature.

According to him, the Speaker’s participation in political rallies undermines the integrity and neutrality required of the office.
