Salasya: Opposition is too obsessed with power and titles
By Isaac Mutia, July 28, 2025Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has critisised the intentions of the united opposition in Kenya, suggesting that their focus is only on titles and power, as opposed to the progress of the country.
In a statement on 28 July 2025, Salasya argued that the opposition was more focused on grabbing power than pushing for meaningful transformation and unity.
“Hear me out, the so-called united opposition is too obsessed with titles; they want power, not progress for our country’s future. Their unity is a mask for greed. Kenya won’t fall for this old trick,” his post reads.

This comes after his previous bold disapproval of the opposition, where he openly criticised opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, suggesting that alliances with opposition leaders would not salvage their political futures.
Political statement
The youthful lawmaker has been positioning himself as an alternative while castigating key opposition leaders. On Sunday, July 27, 2025, Salasya called out Gachagua and accused him of undermining national unity.
In a strongly worded statement posted on X, the legislator expressed concern over the former deputy’s political rhetoric and recent public pronouncements, which he claimed were regressive and risked dividing the nation.
“H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, get this from me: the language that Ruto understands is this politics of tribal. We want one Kenya that is tired of Ruto’s leadership that has failed Kenyans and killed many hopes of young, growing people,” the MP wrote.
He warned that relying on alliances with opposition figures would not salvage the former DP’s political future. “Kalonzo won’t help, Eugene Wamalwa won’t help, Matiang’i won’t help, and Natembeya won’t help you—but we, Kenyans, will,” he added.
Besides politics, Salasya has also been vocal in challenging various reforms and issues affecting various sectors of the economy.
During the recent protests, Salasya has also been bold in calling out the police and the current regime of excesses.
