Moses Ole Sakuda, the Jubilee Party’s 2022 senatorial candidate for Kajiado, has officially defected to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

This decision, he states, has been influenced by his political supporters and aligns him with the UDA party.

In a unique declaration ceremony hosted at his Kimuka residence, Sakuda welcomed UDA party leaders, with the event being graced by the presence of Statehouse Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito.

A number of Jubilee leaders who recently made the switch to the Ruto-led UDA party also attended the ceremony.

Sakuda, who previously served as the first Member of Parliament for Kajiado West after holding a similar position in the larger Kajiado North Constituency, faced defeat in his senatorial bid during the last year’s General Elections. Despite garnering 56,000 votes, he lost to Samuel Seki.

This move to join UDA signals a significant shift in Sakuda’s political trajectory, and his alignment with the party will likely have implications for the political landscape in Kajiado County.

“I have decided to join the winning team. I have decided to join the government of President William Ruto. All those who voted for me and supported me politically let us all move where there are rains and a comfortable house, it is tough being in a leaking house. I pledge my support to President Ruto, “Ole Sakuda declared.

The ceremony turned a Katoo and Ruto government popularization campaign in the wake of emerging political realignment in Kajiado that has seen two political camps.

Kajiado woman representative Leah Sankaire rallied locals and leaders to join the Kenya Kwanza government early and avoid a last-minute rush during the 2027 elections.

“It is not wise to plant during sunset. A wise farmer plants during sunrise. Let us all join the ruling government to reap big from available opportunities and development,” Sankaire said.

Kajiado West Mp George Sunkuiya said Kenya Kwanza government is an all-inclusive government that is focused on empowering Kenyans despite tough economic times which he termed a global challenge.

“We cannot continue criticising Kenya Kwanza government over the harsh economy. It is evident that the government is putting in place measures to revive the economy, “Sunkuiya said.

Kajiado Central Mp Memusi Kanchori said it is no longer about party politics but the politics of leaders with the interest of the people.

Memusi urged the government to crack the whip on corruption to bring to book leaders who embezzle public funds.

Katoo who declared he will vie for the governor seat in 2027 said Uda is eyeing to have 80 per cent control of elected leaders in the next general elections.

“Preparations of tomorrow’s journey start today. I urge you to support my gubernatorial bid come 2027. I also urge all of us to detest clan politics because it has witnessed a lot of divisions in our community,” Katoo said.

Katoo vied for the seat in 2022 on a UDA ticket but lost to ODM Joseph Lenku.

With many leaders warming up for the ruling party Senator Samuel Seki, Kajiado North Mp Onesmus Ngogoyo and nominated Senator Peris Tobiko are perceived to work closely with Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.

For the governor, three out of five Mps were elected on an ODM ticket with the senator and woman MP elected on the UDA party. The majority of Mcas were elected on the UDA ticket.
