President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to his political opponents, challenging them to focus on developing concrete policies rather than engaging in what he termed as empty rhetoric and political theatrics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on April 1, 2025, during his tour of the Mt Kenya region in Laikipia County, Ruto dismissed his detractors urging Kenyans to judge politicians based on their performance rather than political noise.

“Anyone who hasn’t worked should be sent home. Even those who are disturbing me with all this noise. I want to tell those of you who are bothering me to do two things. First, if you want to compete with me, go and formulate policies. Tell these citizens what you’ll do about agriculture, roads, electricity, and healthcare. Otherwise, you’ll just be going around in circles and your issues will amount to nothing,” he stated.

Ruto emphasized that Kenyan voters are discerning enough to distinguish between leaders who deliver and those who engage in empty talk, insisting that only those who deliver on their promises would earn the trust of Kenyans.

“If all you do is move around making noise, your plans will sink. Those people should organize themselves properly and stop unnecessary noise. These citizens are not foolish. They will know who is working and who is just full of empty talk, gossip, and mischief,” Ruto declared.

Focus on service delivery

He reiterated that the ultimate decision on leadership would rest with the electorate come 2027, urging all elected officials to focus on fulfilling their mandates rather than engaging in political squabbles.

“It’s you who gave us jobs. Everyone should do their work. In 2027, you will decide who has worked and deserves to continue, and who hasn’t and should be sent home,” Ruto said.

He stressed the need for all leaders, from Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to Governors and MPs, to concentrate on service delivery rather than political distractions.

“There is no need for unnecessary arguments. Everyone should do their work—MCAs should do theirs, MPs should do theirs, Governors should do theirs, County Women Representatives should do theirs, and I will do mine. The ones who will ultimately evaluate and decide are you, the people,” he stated.
