President William Ruto has announced a decisive mandate to protect Nairobi Hospital, vowing to shield the premier medical facility from conmen and fraudsters.

Speaking during the inspection of Cheptais modern market in Mt Elgon on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Ruto vowed to protect the hospital from fraudulent actors, following reports that he said senior doctors and professionals approached him for intervention.

“Senior doctors, professionals from Nairobi Hospital approached me to save the hospital from conmen, fraudsters, and charlatans who wanted to expropriate Nairobi Hospital,” Ruto said.

Ruto said that Nairobi Hospital serves as a premier medical institution for the entire region and maintained that his administration would not allow it to be compromised by individuals seeking to take it over through fraudulent means.

“For avoidance of doubt, Nataka Niwaambie Wakenya, Nairobi Hospital is a premier medical institution in Kenya; in fact, it serves the region. There is no way I am going to allow Nairobi hospital to be taken over,” Ruto stated.

Removal from the hospital

The President further declared that all individuals found to be involved in fraudulent activities within the hospital will be removed and taken to court to face the law.

“I have instructed with clarity that all those who have been involved in fraudulent activities will be removed, and they will be taken to court and be charged, and Nairobi hospital is going to serve the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.

Ruto also lectured opposition leaders, describing them as “brainless” and advising them to find other matters to attend to rather than involving themselves in the internal politics of Nairobi Hospital.

“I want to tell the brainless opposition, find something else to do and leave alone Nairobi hospital, sikizeni madaktari wa Nairobi hospital mtaambiwa ukweli na muachane na upuzi,” Ruto said.

Ownership of Nairobi Hospital

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, on Monday, March 16, 2026, addressed concerns over the ownership and governance of Nairobi Hospital.

Speaking during the Health Integration Summit in Mombasa County, Duale sought to clarify the hospital’s legal and administrative status.

He explained that Nairobi Hospital operates under a unique membership-based structure and is not privately held, which has recently faced operational challenges affecting service delivery.

“Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has clarified the ownership and governance status of Nairobi Hospital, stating that the facility is owned by the Kenya Hospitals Association and registered as a company limited by guarantee, meaning it is member-owned and has no shareholders,” a statement by the Health Ministry stated.
