President William Ruto has urged leaders from the political class to stop inciting youths to violence and destruction.

Speaking during interdenominational prayer service at Cheptais High School Grounds in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County on Sunday, January 19, 2025, Ruto warned the leaders against incitement noting that they should help the youths access jobs and opportunities instead of violence and confrontations since they deserve the best from leaders.

Furthermore, Ruto added that engaging in violence and destruction will not solve the problems faced by youth nor will it solve the issues affecting the country.

“Our young people deserve the best from us. Kama wazazi, kama serikali, kama viongozi, tusiwapiganishe watoto wetu. These young people of Kenya do not need violence. They do not need confrontations. They want opportunities, jobs and an opportunity to engage in business. That is what we should be doing as leaders instead of inciting them to violence and destruction and many things that will not solve their problem and that will not solve the problem of our country,” Ruto said.

The head of state further encouraged the youths in Mt Elgon to take advantage of the job opportunities in the ICT Hubs, County Aggregation and Industrial Park, labour migration and local market for their lives development.

Kwa hivyo mimi nauliza vijana wa Mount Elgon kuna nafasi pale kwa ICT hub, kuna nafasi pale kwa soko, kuna nafasi katika mpango wetu wa housing, kuna nafasi katika county aggregation and industrial park, kuna nafasi ya labour migration jipange na hizo nafasi na ndio maisha yako itasonga mbele that is what we must do,” Ruto said.

Ruto to critics

In addition, Ruto slammed critics stating that they have no alternative plan for the country apart from throwing insults and criticising his administration.

He further assured Kenyans that the country is heading in the right direction.

“Hiyo ndio mpango yetu na mimu nataka niwahakikishie hiyo mpango kwa mapenzi ya Mungu itafaulu. Msikuwe na wasiwasi na wale ambao wanaongea mambo mengi. Hao wanongea mambo mengi ni kwa sababu wamekwama na hawana mpango mbadala. They have no alternative plan ndio matusi ni mingi na mambo yale mengine ni nyingi kwa sababu ni kiwauliza leo waniambie mpango yao tafauti na hii yetu,”he added.

Ruto was accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Welang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Bungoma Governor Kennedy Lusaka and national and local leaders.

The prayer service marks the beginning of Ruto’s five-day presidential development tour across the western region.
