President William Ruto has made a significant move by reaching out to former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

During his visit to the Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul, Ruto requested Ki-moon to join efforts in establishing the School of Leadership at the University of Nairobi.

Ruto’s request to Ban Ki-moon

According to Ruto, the University of Nairobi as an institution aims to cultivate specialized skills in crucial areas such as climate action, finance, and renewable energy, through its school of leadership.

“In Seoul, South Korea held talks with Mr Ban Ki-Moon, former United Nations Secretary-General. I urged Mr Ban to join the initiative on the establishment of the School of Leadership at the University of Nairobi which will focus on developing specialised skills in climate action and finance, and renewable energy,” Ruto said.

Ruto emphasized the growing importance of Africa as a substantial voice in climate action and financing, highlighting the need for targeted education and training in these vital fields.

“Africa has become a significant voice in climate action and financing. To maintain this momentum, it is crucial for us to enhance our capacity in the various fields of expertise,“ he said.

The envisioned School of Leadership at the University of Nairobi is poised to play a pivotal role in equipping future leaders with the expertise and knowledge necessary to address pressing global challenges in climate change and sustainable finance.

The president says the establishment of this specialized school signifies a significant step towards enhancing Africa’s influence and contribution to global initiatives in climate action and financial sustainability.
