President William Ruto has taken his mobilisation campaign to Kiambu County, promising various development projects to the region in a bid to consolidate his support ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking at the State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kiambu, Ruto reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the country, highlighting notable achievements in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and employment since assuming office.

At the meeting, Ruto announced the government’s plan to construct a 10,000-seater stadium in Thika Town at a time when the country is preparing to host the 2027 Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Cup of Nations, where upgraded roads and sports infrastructure in Nairobi and its environs are key.

”We are also breaking new ground in infrastructure and sports. A new 10,000-seater stadium will be constructed in Thika Town. We will also complete the 240-kilometre Mau Mau Roads and finalise the Northern Bypass, for which we have allocated Ksh20 billion,” Ruto said.

Ruto added that the administration’s promises were no longer mere aspirations but tangible realities taking shape across the country. The Head of State said the government is committed to ensuring affordable healthcare for all citizens amid reports of fund mismanagement at the Social Health Authority (SHA).

‘Healthcare is no longer a privilege for the few who can afford it but a right guaranteed to every Kenyan. We are also digitising our health system to seal the loopholes that crippled NHIF, ensuring that the Social Health Authority delivers on its mandate. SHA must work, and it will work.”

Development scorecard

The Head of State also noted that his administration is delivering “the largest market development in Kenya’s history”, with over 30 modern markets worth Ksh4.5 billion under construction in Kiambu County alone. These markets, he said, will empower traders and spur economic activity at the grassroots.

Infrastructure also remains a central focus of the government’s agenda. He announced that a new 10,000-seater stadium will be built in Thika Town to promote sports and youth talent, while major road projects are progressing steadily. Among them are the 240-kilometre Mau Mau Roads and the completion of the Northern Bypass, which has been allocated Ksh20 billion.

The President acknowledged that the path to transformation has not been easy but affirmed that his administration is determined to deliver.

“We will not let this country down. The choices may be tough, but we remain unbowed. Kenya must be transformed,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Ruto’s move to woo Kiambu comes after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that the President has lost ground in the entire Mount Kenya region heading into the next election.
