President William Ruto has shared a bold vision for the nation’s future, promising that Kenya is on a good track to becoming a first-world country within the lifetime of current generations.

Speaking during a visit to the Kisii and Nyamira region on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, President Ruto stressed that the country’s ongoing development programmes will fundamentally alter its landscape within the next decade.

Ruto listed the government’s affordable housing programme, which he described as a catalyst for national change, as a key initiative in making the country develop.

He predicted that in another 10 years, the progress made through these initiatives will make the country unrecognisable, drawing parallels to the rapid development seen in nations like Singapore.

“Go anywhere, and it is just programme affordable housing in another 10 years, you will not recognise Kenya, hii Singapore tunaongelelea haiko mbali, we’re going to make it in our lifetime, that’s why I’ve said Kenya is going to be a first-world country in our lifetime. Equity is very important, ” Ruto said.

Strategic plan

Ruto stated that this shift is possible if the country remains committed to its current strategic plans.

He added that he has been engaging with various leaders across the country to ensure that, when developments are discussed, local leaders also include their counties in the plan.

“I am telling you in the agenda of Kenya, we sit down with your leaders, and we discuss the plan on how to make sure, as Kenya is developing Kisii and Nyamira is right in the middle, so that we can take it forward,” Ruto said.

Broad-based government plan

Ruto also dismissed criticism surrounding the formation of a broad-based government, describing it as a deliberate and intentional move to ensure no Kenyan feels excluded from the nation’s progress.

“Let me tell you, when we formed the broad-based government, it was not a mistake it was deliberate it was intentional because in my equation I wanted a situation where no Kenyan feels left out, we want to move all of us together so and it is my hope and prayer that broad-based is going to bring the people of Kenya together,” Ruto stated.

President Ruto noted that the broad-based model offers leaders an opportunity to pool ideas and resources for the benefit of all Kenyans, thereby enhancing service delivery and accelerating growth.
