President William Ruto has said his coming together with ODM Party leader Raila Odinga is God-sent.

Speaking to a delegation from Kisumu County led by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to the broad-based government, stating that it was the surest way to ensure no region lags behind.

“The broad-based government is neither a creation of Baba nor myself. It is God-sent. I say that because it is what is necessary for us to have the political goodwill to be able to push the development agenda of our nation,” Ruto said.

“Transformation of a nation is not an easy thing; it is difficult. It takes very difficult decisions to transform a nation, and therefore, you need immense goodwill to be able to drive any meaningful transformation of a nation.”

Support for broad-based govt

“I sincerely appreciate your support for the broad-based government, and I want to give you my assurance that no Kenyan, region, community or religion is going to be left behind. We are going to move together,” Ruto noted.

During the meeting with the delegation from Kisumu, which included local MPs, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), professionals and elders at the State House, Ruto highlighted some of the development initiatives achieved as a result of his pact with Raila.

“We are committed to our resolve that no region or community will be left behind in the endeavour to transform Kenya. Inclusive development powers our country’s energies in all sectors and all value chains,” Ruto observed.

“Our development of blue economy resources is bearing fruit and improving the incomes of fisherfolk not only in Kisumu, but across the Lake Victoria region. The Kabonyo Fisheries and Aquaculture Centre will grow between 25 million and 30 million fingerlings a year, while fish landing sites are being built in the region.”

Cracks within pact

The assurance comes in the wake of renewed calls from a section of politicians in the ODM Party agitating in support of breaking away from the broad-based government over the recent surge in extra-judicial killings and police brutal crackdown on protesters.

Sifuna, on Saturday, June 15, 2025, sensationally stated that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties ceases to exist following Albert Ojwang’s death in detention hours after he was arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations hours after his arrest.

“If you ask me, as Sifuna, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the Orange Democratic Party and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is of no use as I speak today.
