Ruto annouces plan to make UDA blueprint last beyond election cycle
By Cy Muganda, January 17, 2026President William Ruto has announced plans to build the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) into a mass national political party that will partner with like-minded movements to advance Kenya’s transformation agenda.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after hosting over 17,000 UDA grassroots leaders from Nyeri County at Sagana State Lodge, Ruto said the party is establishing a strong political unit to carry the national agenda beyond a single election cycle.
“Hosted more than 17,000 UDA grassroots leaders from Nyeri County, who were elected as polling centre officials last week, at Sagana State Lodge, Nyeri,” Ruto stated.
Mass national party
The Head of State emphasised UDA’s transformation into a party that champions Kenya’s development agenda in partnership with other political movements.
“We are building the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) into a truly mass national political party, one that champions Kenya’s transformation agenda in partnership with like-minded political movements across the country,” he said.

He stressed that visionary leadership, political collaboration, and unity of purpose are essential for achieving long-term development goals.
“Through visionary leadership, political collaboration, and unity of purpose, we are establishing a strong political unit to carry the national agenda beyond a single election cycle and to provide continuity in our development journey,” the President stated.
Manifesto implementation
Ruto also defended his administration’s record since taking office, noting that the government has remained aligned with its campaign pledges under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
He said the past three years have demonstrated the party’s commitment to implementing its manifesto.
“In the last three years, we have remained faithful to our party manifesto, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, and we are proud of our track record,” he stated.
The President reiterated that his government remains focused on transforming Kenya into a first-world economy, outlining key priority areas that include infrastructure development, human capital investment, healthcare, agriculture, industrialisation and job creation for young people.
“We remain committed to pushing forward with our plan to transform Kenya into a first-world economy through strategic investment in infrastructure, development of human capital, quality healthcare, agricultural production, industrialisation, and jobs for our young people,” Ruto said.
