Kieni Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega now claims that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga is currently enjoying 50 per cent support in the Mount Kenya region.

According to Kanini, 2.95 million out of the 5.9 million voters in the expansive region have agreed to back Odinga’s State House bid.

The MP who is also the Jubilee Party’s Director of Elections board stated that the new ranking puts Odinga above his desire of only garnering 30 per cent votes from the region.

In a post on his Facebook account, Kanini claimed that the long journey to help Odinga receive the support of Mt Kenya residents has been completed.

“We are now at the 50% mark in Mount Kenya! Hii kitu imeisha. For your information we only needed 30% pass mark,” he posted.

However, the MP revealed that Azimio la Umoja leaders will be conducting online polls every Tuesday seeking to know the opinion of netizens on who they would wish to take over government after President Uhuru Kenyatta retires in August.

“Tuesday from 8 am we shall be conducting an online public opinion on your choice of the Presidential candidate starting today. Be on standby,” he added.

According to analysts, Odinga has been gaining ground in the region that has for many years voted against him after he picked Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua to deputize him in the race.

Odinga also seems to have received support from people in the region after President Kenyatta, who is also the region’s kingpin, declared him as his preferred successor.
