Proceedings at the Nairobi County Assembly adhoc committee investigating the drop in revenue collection at the county government failed to kick off for a second time yesterday after key witnesses who were supposed to shed more light gave the sitting a wide berth.

Among those who failed to appear included officers from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), CEC Finance Charles Kerich and Benson Njoroge.

“The county executive would not be able to appear before the committee due to a pre-scheduled training that is ongoing starting today. We request that the meeting be rescheduled to Monday, January 22, 2024, at 10:00 am together with the KRA team.” A letter by Acting- County Secretary Patrick Analo read.

The committee’s chairman who is the majority leader and Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok therefore gave a direction for the summoned persons to appear before the committee on Tuesday, January 23.

On Tuesday, the Registrar of Companies told the adhoc committee that the systems used by the county government have never been registered as companies.

The committee is next week expected to have site visits to several companies and revenue sectors in the county like the parking.

The investigations by the committee have revealed that Nairobi City County has been losing revenue due to the failure of the systems for revenue collection.
