PNU endorses Fred Matiang’i for 2027 presidency
By Cy Muganda, February 18, 2026The Party of National Unity has endorsed Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, formalising a partnership with Jubilee Party ahead of the polls.
In a statement posted on its Facebook account on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Jubilee Party announced that the two parties have agreed to work together, describing the moment as “defining” in Kenya’s political history.
“Today marks a defining moment in the political history of our nation. Jubilee Party and the Party of National Unity (PNU) have formally agreed to walk together, guided by a shared conviction that Kenya deserves steady, experienced, and people-centred leadership,” the statement read.

Established political formations
According to the statement, both parties bring proven track records of governance and nation-building.
“These are not parties of experiment or empty slogans. They are parties that have formed government before, parties whose record in stabilising the economy, building institutions, expanding infrastructure, and protecting national unity is well known to every Kenyan,” the statement said.
The two parties praised Matiang’i’s public service record across multiple sectors.
“Dr Matiang’i represents discipline in public service, courage in decision-making, and a track record of results in education reform, security coordination, and public administration,” the parties stated.

Fundamental national challenges
The endorsement positioned Matiang’i as an alternative to the current administration.
“At a time when our nation is weighed down by broken promises, rising costs of living, and leadership that has lost touch with the everyday struggles of Kenyans, this alliance offers a credible and tested alternative,” the statement added.
The parties emphasised that their partnership goes beyond electoral calculations to address fundamental national challenges.
“This partnership is not merely political arithmetic, it is a commitment to rescue our economy, restore dignity to public institutions, empower young people, and return honesty to government,” the statement concluded with the hashtag #MbelePamoja (Forward Together).
