Pauline Njoroge: Kalonzo has no reason to join Ruto’s camp

Jubilee Party Deputy Organizing Secretary Pauline Njoroge has dismissed claims that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is on his way to joining President William Ruto’s government.

In a post shared on her X account on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Njoroge took aim at what she described as broad-based government supporters living in denial. She accused them of spreading false narratives after Wiper’s successful National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on Friday at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.

“After a successful Wiper NDC yesterday, some broad-based government supporters who have been living in denial were all over social media making funny claims,” she wrote. “Why would Kalonzo abandon the united opposition when he now stands his best chance at the presidency?”

Njoroge said Kalonzo had no reason to defect to Ruto’s camp, arguing that the Wiper leader’s political base had expanded and that he now enjoyed strong backing from several regions.

“With a solid opening balance from Mt. Kenya, Kamba, and Kisii regions, and additional support from parts of the Coast, Western, and the Maa community, what would he be running to Ruto for?” she asked. “Kalonzo is not a man who will trade his inheritance for a morsel of bread.”

Kalonzo declares 2027 bid

Her remarks came a day after Kalonzo was endorsed as Wiper’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election during the NDC at Uhuru Park. The event drew thousands of supporters and leaders allied to the opposition, including Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, Rigathi Gachagua, and Justin Muturi.

During the meeting, Kalonzo officially declared his bid for the presidency and urged Kenyans, particularly the youth, to vote out President Ruto in 2027.

“Ruto ordered for you to be shot in the legs because you exercised your constitutional rights. I urge you to shoot Ruto at the ballot,” he said, in a remark that echoed the president’s earlier statement to police officers.

Kalonzo also promised to lower taxes, reduce the cost of living, and restore freedom of expression if elected. He said his administration would focus on job creation, affordable education, and a fair economy.

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa compared the Uhuru Park event to the 2002 moment when Kenyans witnessed the end of the Moi era and the rise of Mwai Kibaki’s government.

“History repeats itself,” Wamalwa said, noting that the Wiper gathering symbolised a government in waiting.

While opposition leaders spoke of unity, government allies continued to express hope that Kalonzo might still work with Ruto. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei recently said the broad-based government, which includes Kenya Kwanza and ODM, remained open to engaging Kalonzo. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also described the Wiper boss as a noble and decent man whom they would like to work with.

But Kalonzo’s allies have made it clear he is not crossing over. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua told Ruto to stop sending emissaries to approach the Wiper leader.

“If you want Kalonzo, talk to me directly,” he said during a rally in Ukambani.
