Osotsi: Linda Mwananchi will join Gen Z in their June anniversary protests

Vihiga Senator who doubles as deputy party leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Godfrey Osotsi, has announced that their Linda Mwananchi movement will join the Gen Zs during their June anniversary protests.

Speaking during their event held at a Nairobi hotel meant to counter the outcome of the broad-based parliamentary group meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Osotsi said the Linda Mwananchi movement, which was established by a group of rebels within ODM, works to stand with Kenyans whenever there are excesses.

“Linda Mwananchi will join the Gen Zs during their June commemoration,” he said.

This came after the team deliberated on the right to picket and demonstrate, which was part of the 10-point agenda.

According to the team, the committee on the implementation of the 10-point agenda provided little or no framework on how the issue would be addressed. They argued that the right to protest is still curtailed despite being entrenched in the agenda.

Orengo calls for protests

James Orengo, the governor of Siaya County and an integral member of the Linda Mwananchi movement, also appeared to call for protests. He said that there can be no free and fair elections if Kenyans themselves cannot come out in masses to demand them.

He warned that failure to do so would mean that even after next year’s elections, Kenyans may still find themselves in the same situation they are in currently and continue lamenting.

This comes days after political analyst Herman Manyora stated that the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi team has awakened the “sleeping giants”, referring to Gen Zs who almost brought the country to a standstill. He described the age group as a force that nobody can dare to ignore, warning that anyone who does so risks being swept by the wave.

Secondly, he’s awakening two sleeping giants. One is the one which you know, which is the Gen Z that are asleep. That’s a giant across the world. Youth is a force you cannot ignore,” he added.

The political pundit continued to explain that the team led by Edwin Sifuna has now attracted the Gen Z group who were previously undecided about which political direction to take ahead of the 2027 elections. He added that this has rattled the status quo, which, according to him, is made up of President William Ruto and his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua
