Days after the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) announced the expulsion of nominated senator Gloria Orwoba; the embattled lawmaker, who is set to lose her seat, now claims that she did not join politics to make money.

Taking to her official Facebook account on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Orwoba claimed that leaders who have reportedly conned Kenyans with fake job promises are the ones that joined politics to make money.

Orwoba, who has since declared her interest in the 2027 Bobasi constituency parliamentary seat, further stated that she only joined politics to be a positive change maker and that things have been good on her side so far.

Orwoba urges patience

She also urged her supporters to remain patient and ignore any reports spread about her, noting that she is the one who will update them on her plans ahead of 2027.

Tuko warm up. Watu wa fake news… leo punguzeni kidogo… I am the one who will update you on what’s happening, with whom, and where. Asante for those encouraging messages from the thousands of followers and supporters.

“Worry not; some of us didn’t join politics to make money; those characters are the ones conning Kenyans Chap Chap with fake diaspora jobs. I joined politics to be a positive change maker…and so far, so good,” she stated.

“There is a reason hawa watu wanakimbia ma round mwenda na wasi wasi…mambo bado. Si bure watu wamenyamaza. Be patient. Na siasa weka kwa lungs, otherwise utakufa bure uwache wanasiasa wakipiga siasa kwa matanga. Ngojeni kidogo tu, pingu zianguke,” she added.

UDA expels Orwoba

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, in a press statement issued on Monday, May 19, 2025, noted that the party’s Disciplinary Committee had resolved that Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the UDA Party with immediate effect.

“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” the statement read in part.

Omar further stated that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had already adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.

Following the decision, Senator Orwoba will no longer enjoy any privileges accorded to party members.

UDA also says she is not authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity.

“Further, during its meeting held on 19th May 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. Accordingly, Sen. Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party. Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members, nor is she authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity,” Omar stated.

Orwoba has been accused of disloyalty to the party days after she associated herself with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
