Opposition launches 2-day Kitui tour amid efforts to consolidate Ukambani vote
The United Alternative Government (UAG) has announced a two-day political tour of Kitui County as part of its grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement by the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the tour dubbed “Kitui County Tour” will take place on April 22 and 23, 2026.

The first day of the visit is set to cover Kitui West, Mwingi West, and Mwingi Central constituencies, while the second day will see leaders traverse Kitui Central, Kitui East, Kitui Rural, and Kitui South.
The latest tour adds to a series of visits in what is considered as Kalonzo’s backyard in a move to consolidate the region ahead if the 2027 poll.
Gusii and Rift Valley rallies
The Kitui tour follows a rally in Kikuyu township on Saturday, April 11, 2026, that came amid claims by Gachagua that some leaders in the region had warned against holding political gatherings in the constituency.
However, Gachagua has rejected these intimidation tactics, maintaining that Kikuyu is governed by the Constitution of Kenya, which protects the fundamental rights of peaceful assembly and association.
During his visit in the region, Gachagua accused Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah of orchestrating the disruption of his rally in Kikuyu using teargas, in what he termed a betrayal of the electorate.

Gachagua claimed that the MP, who has been elected by the area residents for three consecutive terms, had turned against the very people who entrusted him with leadership.
Gachagua claimed that Ichung’wah is working in collaboration with President William Ruto to frustrate his political activities in the region.
“Umeshikana na William Ruto kuangaisha jamii ya Kikiyu. Ni makosa kubwa sana wewe Ichungwah, hawa watu walikuchagua mara tatu kutuma polisi na teargas kuja kuwaangaisha watu walikuchagua,” Gachagua said.
The coalition, led by Matiang’i, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, has also held rallies at Ekerenyo Grounds, Kisii Stadium, Keumbu, Ogembo, Kenyenya, Nyamache, and Masimba.
Nakuru rally

The visit was part of the United Alternative Government’s nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders seeking to expand influence in Rift Valley counties.
