Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has intimated that the Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a retreat in three weeks’ time after completing the Migori chapter.

While speaking during a radio interview on Monday, May 25, 2026, the outspoken senator stated that the retreat will be used to discuss various issues, including the direction the movement is taking.

Onyonka further noted that the same retreat will also address growing public pressure over questions on who the leader of the movement is and what its ultimate political goal is.

“After having a rally in Migori, which is in 3 weeks, we will have a retreat to discuss several issues, including what our next step as a movement is.”

He also warned that the Linda Mwananchi movement, which is predominantly made up of rebels from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), should avoid prematurely naming a flag bearer should they decide to field a presidential candidate in 2027.

According to Onyonka, they risk subjecting whoever they will settle on to state intimidation and harassment aimed at derailing his political bid, adding that they should wait until the last minute before making such decisions.

Amisi’s perspective

On the other hand, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has opposed this position, saying that the movement should unveil its leadership by November 2026.

According to the outspoken MP, failure to do so could cause the masses who have been following them to drift away.

He also urged members of the movement to clearly state their positions so that Kenyans can understand what they stand for, instead of conducting frequent rallies without clarity on leadership and direction.

This comes ahead of a Machakos rally slated for Sunday, May 31, 2026, with a subsequent rally in Mlolongo on the same day.

After that, they will proceed to Meru, where they are expected to be hosted by former governor Kawira Mwangaza, who has also recently joined the Linda Mwananchi movement.

After the Meru rally, they will head to Kisii.

The Kisii rally was initially scheduled before Machakos, but following the demise of Onyonka’s mother, it was postponed. The movement will now proceed to Migori after Kisii.

This comes at a time when the Linda Mwananchi movement has been traversing the country, attracting large crowds and drawing significant public attention.
