Olekina tips Ruto to win 90% of Maasai vote
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has predicted that President William Ruto will secure a staggering 90 per cent of the Maasai vote in the next election, citing the president’s progressive development agenda as the primary driver.
Speaking during an interview with Herman Manyora on his podcast aired on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Olekina, formerly one of Ruto’s fiercest critics, revealed that his change of heart stems from witnessing tangible infrastructure projects that directly benefit the Maasai community.

Olekina revealed that the construction of the Narok International Airport and the extension of the railway line are pivotal reasons for his support.
New SGR in the region
“I no longer have to put my cows in a truck and then get stuck in Mai Mahiu for 8 hours… I’ll just load them in a waggon and take them to the Kenya Meat Commission. That to me made me change my mind and say this man William Ruto is being progressive,” Olekina stated.
Olekina made it clear that the Maasai community is tired of being on the outside of government.
He predicted that the “Maa vote” across Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Laikipia, Nakuru, Baringo, Kajiado, Taita, and Mombasa would consolidate behind the president.

“The Maasai have been in opposition for many years, and the one thing that I said is we will never be in opposition again,” Olekina declared.
“To be honest with you, unless I move out, Ruto will get 90 per cent of the Maasai votes,” Olekina said.
While Olekina is still a member of the ODM party, he made it clear that he supports the current government because he believes in fairness and inclusion, which he thinks are important for the country’s progress.
Defence on Narok Airport
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, April 2, 2026, Olekina dismissed online claims that the president had misled Kenyans on the progress of the airport.
“Naysayers crying ‘President lied on Narok Int’l Airport. ‘ Let ‘em whine; WE Narok residents know the FACTS,” Olekina wrote.

He further challenged the social media critics to visit the site before passing judgment.
“Runway at 60 per cent complete. Heavy Feb/March rains made construction impossible. Terminal building? Narok County’s responsibility, not Ruto’s. None of you social media critics have even visited the site! Facts are stubborn. If you hate President Ruto, go ahead and get in line; you won’t change the facts, and you won’t be the first to hate on him,” Olekina said.
