Officers of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Gem, Siaya County have launched investigations on Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo after allegations of death threats and intimidation were levelled against him by a Siaya MCA.
The nominated MCA, Linda Juma, recorded a statement on Monday October 4 with the police in Yala claiming that she had received death threats from the area MP for shifting allegiance to aspiring parliamentary candidate Jalango Midiwo.
Juma said the MP insulted and threatened her over new political stand. She currently supports the eldest brother of the late Jakoyo Midiwo, Jalango Midiwo, who has declared interest in the parliamentary seat come 2022.
“It’s true that Odhiambo had fronted my name to ODM for considertaion of nomination after the last polls. That does not however infringe my right to support other candidates politically.
The lawmaker had not only threatened my life, but also vowed to destroy my vehicle If I do not abandon Jalango in 20 days,” Juma said.
She further revealed that the current MP was her parliamentary candidate in 2017 and that she traversed the constituency pleading with the voters to give him maximum support.
“I had campaigned for Odhiambo till he captured the seat in 2017, and I have been loyal to him since. Things went went out of hand last year when I declined to join him in fighting Governor Cornel Rasanga,” she added.
She added that on two different occasions, she was trailed by strange vehicles with occupants who warned her to disassociate with Midiwo.
She further alleges that the lawmaker Odhiambo allegedly warned her to tread carefully politically, lest she “faces dire consequences” in a phone conversation.
The ODM legislator allegedly gave Juma 20 days to reform or be whipped.
Siaya Police Commandant Michael Muchiri confirmed the statement recordings saying that DCI are on the matter.
