ODM legislators endorse Sifuna’s suspension from secretary general role
By Cynthia Lodite, March 3, 2026The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislators have endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s removal from his role as the secretary general despite the decision made by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT).
Following a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting convened by the party officials on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed shared the resolutions, indicating that the members endorsed the National Executive Committee’s decision to suspend Sifuna as the party’s secretary general.
According to Junet, the legislators present at the meeting held within the Parliament Buildings endorsed the National Executive Committee’s past decision to oust Sifuna as the ODM Secretary General.
“PG endorsed the decision by the National Executive Committee to suspend Hon. Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General,” Junet’s statement read in part.

Tribunal remarks on Sifuna’s fate
The ODM legislators’ endorsement comes days after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) acting chairperson Gad Gathu extended orders barring the removal of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General (SG) Edwin Sifuna from the office.
Gathu extended the orders on Thursday, February 26, 2026, after the ODM legal team told the court that it agreed to the application for extension of the stay orders in force pending the hearing and determination of the case.
However, the ODM party legal team stated that the Tribunal and the complainant (Sifuna) should also note that it is their wish that the matter be disposed of as soon as it is practical.
“The application dated February 11, 2026, is allowed by consent of the parties,” acting chairperson Gathu ruled.
ODM NEC decision barred
At the time, the PPDT temporarily barred the ODM NEC from executing a resolution removing Nairobi Senator Sifuna as the party’s SG until his application challenging his removal is heard and determined.
Further, the Tribunal restrained the ODM party from publishing the NEC resolution to remove Sifuna as the party’s SG in the Kenya Gazette.

“That pending the hearing and determination of this instant application, inter partes, this Honourable Tribunal hereby issues orders staying the implementation of the resolution made by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) on February 11, 2026, to remove Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary General of the Party,” the acting PPDT Chairperson ordered.
“Pending the hearing and determination of this instant application, inter partes, this Honourable Tribunal hereby issues an order restraining the respondents (ODM and the Registrar of Political Parties) from publishing in the Kenya Gazette the resolution made on February 11, 2026, to remove Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary General of the Party,” the Tribunal added.
Scheduled hearing on Sifuna’s fate
Meanwhile, the Tribunal on Thursday, February 26, 2026, further scheduled March 12, 2026, for the hearing of the matter and also directed ODM to file and serve their authority to swear, together with transcripts, within three days.
Further, it has also directed Sifuna to file and serve his submissions within seven days.
“The respondent will have seven days from the date of service to file and serve their submissions; then the hearing, by way of highlighting oral submissions, will be held on March 12, 2026, at 10 am,” the acting PPDT Chairperson directed.
