Oburu reveals how ODM intends to remain united
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Oburu Odinga has revealed that the party has resolved to present a united front on key party issues and end the internal wranglings.
Speaking to a local TV on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, Oburu attributed the contradictory sentiments to the infighting and divisions within the party.
“We agreed that the party should desist from making contradicting statements. The declarations in support of the president, while others state the contrary, are issues that may bring divisions for no reason,” he added.
The Siaya Senator added that strengthening the outfit was the party’s immediate concern as they look to life after the death of its leader, Raila Odinga.

He stressed that ODM joined the government to stabilise it, and as such, members had opted to collaborate rather than cause instability.

“At the moment, we look to strengthen our party. We have an arrangement with the government, and we don’t want to be fighting the government as we work with it. We have not formed the government we are in; we only came in to stabilise after seeing that if it falls, it could lead to bloodshed and other things, something we did not envisage,” he added.
His sentiment comes after he denied assertions that Secretary General Edwin Sifuna could be on his way out of the party.
Oburu acknowledged that the SG and other youthful politicians within ODM have occasionally expressed strong opinions on issues, but they remain part of the party.
“You saw he is the one who read our party resolution. I have talked to him, and he has no issues. He is young and among the politicians with a strong opinion. He can at times go overboard, but we are with him in the party,” he stated.
He emphasised in any case of any overreach, the party will use available in-house regulations to rein in such individuals.
“He is still with us and has done nothing wrong to be removed from the party. If it so happens we have a party mechanism for dealing with such issues internally as a party,” he added.
