Oburu Oginga praised for outreach to Babu Owino, ODM feuding members

Kasmuel MCoure has extolled the leadership qualities of ODM Party leader Oburu Oginga, citing his ongoing interventions around the ongoing in the Orange party.

In an interview with a local radio station on Friday, January 9, 2026, the youthful politician described his outreach to the perceived party rebels, such as Embakasi MP Babu Owino, and his subsequent reassurances to the young legislators as exemplary.

“Oburu has been able to quell the storms inside the party. He is a massive leader who has been able to lead with purpose,” his recount of Oburu’s leadership stated.

“There was a time it seemed Babu was destined to leave the party and a massive number of followers with him, and he intervened,” he said.

His sentiments come after the Siaya Senator also reached out to steady the ODM ship amid the recent simmering tension.

Oburu held meetings with the feuding officials of the party in the past two days in a bid to end a week that witnessed top party officials engage in a public spat and war of words.

Oburu leads ODM’s truce meeting

The new acting party leader on Wednesday held a meeting with Edwin Sifuna in his office before hosting a similar meeting with Junet Mohammed on Thursday, January 7, 2026.

In a statement shared via its official X account, after the meeting with the National Assembly Minority Leader, ODM stated that the two revealed that the two leaders deliberated on matters relating to the Orange party.

“Minority Leader in the National Assembly ⁦@JunetMohamed this morning called on the Party Leader ⁦@DrOburu_O at his office in Nairobi. They deliberated on matters relating to the party and its growth as well as the state of politics in the country.  #TukoTayari,” ODM stated.

The meeting came amid attempts to oust Sifuna from the party, which were put on hold after the party’s top organs intervened and proposed an in-house approach.
