Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga on Thursday, January 8, 2026, held a crucial meeting with National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, who called on him at his office in Nairobi.

ODM, in a statement shared via its official X account, revealed that the two leaders deliberated on matters relating to the Orange party.

Junet and Oburu’s meeting is also said to have focused on the ODM party’s growth as well as the state of politics in the country.

“Minority Leader in the National Assembly ⁦@JunetMohamed today morning called on the Party Leader ⁦@DrOburu_O at his office in Nairobi. They deliberated on matters relating to the party, its growth as well as the state of politics in the country. #TukoTayari,” ODM stated.

Oburu meets Sifuna

This comes just a day after Oburu held a similar meeting with embattled ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

The two meetings come after the ODM deputy vice chairperson, Otiende Amollo, implored the leadership to intervene in the impasse among sections of party members at loggerheads.

In a statement on Monday, January 5, 2026, Amollo had addressed the ongoing war of words between Junet and Sifuna, warning that the divisions risked plunging the party into more turmoil and disarray.

“We call upon the party’s elected leadership and wider membership to uphold the tenets of unity and camaraderie espoused by the late Raila. We also encourage the party leader to call for an internal session to put an end to the spats,” he said.

Sifuna ouster push

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch had earlier engineered calls to oust Sifuna, which were put on hold after the party’s top organs intervened and proposed an in-house approach.

Oketch had, on Monday, January 5, 2026, authored a letter initiating the removal process against the Nairobi Senator from the helm of the party.

Oketch, however, confirmed that he was prevailed upon to withdraw the plans to give room for dialogue and party structures to resolve the matter.

He had faulted Sifuna’s presence in Murang’a during the funeral of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother in the company of Gachagua, stating that the development had prompted him to begin plans to initiate an ouster motion against the outspoken senator.
