Ngunjiri Wambugu slams Gachagua after he takes allies to 3-day coast retreat
Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has taken a swipe at Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rogathi Gachagua after he took his allies to a three-day retreat at the Coast.
Taking to his official Facebook page on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Wambugu took issue with the retreat for what he claims was tribal.
According to the former Gachagua ally-turned foe, Kenya is bigger than the Mt Kenya region. He argues that out of those who attended the retreat, it was only Kajiado Senator Ole Seki who did not have the Mt Kenya routes.
“Do these guys know Kenya is actually bigger than the Mt Kenya Region; ama Senator Seki is the representative of ‘the rest of Kenya?” Wambugu stated.

Malala’s whereabouts
He went ahead to question the whereabouts of the DCP deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, who did not attend the retreat.
Wambugu further argued that Malala might have learnt that the event would be addressed in the Kikuyu language and chose to skip it.
“Na Deputy Party Leader Malala ako wapi? Ama, he knew the meeting was in Kikuyu, & he doesn’t understand Kikuyu (I know Parseina does). Anyway. Yetu macho tu,” he said.

DCP Coast retreat
Gachagua, accompanied by a delegation of top DCP party officials and members, travelled to Mombasa for a key party retreat commencing on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
According to a statement from the former deputy president, the three-day retreat will focus on reviewing the party’s activities and adopting strategies in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The event will also familiarise party members with the election calendar and major upcoming milestones in the lead-up to the 2027 polls.
Among the attendees at the retreat were Senators John Methu (Nyandarua), Ole Seki (Kajiado), John Kinyua, Kamau Murango (Nyandarua), Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), and Joe Nyutu (Murang’a).
Others present included MPs Kamau Munyoro, Gakuya James (Embakasi North), Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri), Gitonga Mukunji (Manyatta), Amos Mwago, Mwangi Wandeto, Jayne Kihara, Onesmus Ngogoyo, John Kaguchia (Mukurwe-ini), Kamande Mwafrika (Roysambu), and Wakili Muriu; Woman Representative Gacheri Maina; Nyeri County Assembly Speaker Gichuhi Mwangi; and MCA David Mathenge.
