Ngunjiri Wambugu: Jubilee party leadership is not interested in winning the Ol Kalou seat
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 27, 2026Former Nyeri MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has come out to question whether the Jubilee Party is truly interested in winning the Ol Kalou by-election seat.
In a series of statements shared on his social media accounts on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the outspoken former MP, who has been critical of his party over the treatment of aspirants, opined that judging from the events of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, where a Jubilee-branded truck was seen carrying Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) supporters as their candidate headed to the constituency offices to be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the party leadership is not interested in reclaiming the Ol Kalou seat.
“You can tell the heart of the Jubilee leadership is not in the Ol Kalou by-elections at all. That is why our bus is carrying campaigners of opponent parties without issue. They are just going through the motions so we don’t say they didn’t field a candidate,” Wambugu said.

He continued to express dissatisfaction with the party leadership, led by Fred Matiang’i and his deputy Jeremiah Kioni, doubting whether they would give the candidate the necessary support or even campaign for their candidate in the constituency. He further contended that the Jubilee leadership is not interested in winning the Ol Kalou seat.
“I doubt our party will give our candidate any support in Ol Kalou. I will be surprised if Matiang’i or other senior officials step into Ol Kalou. (Maybe Kioni). They don’t want us to win. They don’t know what they’d tell Jofri if we beat him,” he added.
“I hadn’t realised the fellows riding in our bus were from Jofri’s party. Yenyewe, the leadership of our party is just going through the motions on this one. Hapa moyo iko kwa Jofri.”
Ngunjiri’s reservation with Jubilee

Ngunjiri Wambugu has been very vocal about his party’s approach to the Ol Kalou seat. He slammed the party for not pushing for zoning in Ol Kalou and instead allowing
The Jubilee Party to field a candidate while the rest of the parties within the united opposition rallied behind their candidate, as was the case in Mbeere North and Malava, considering that the late MP David Kiaraho was a member of the Jubilee Party.
Old Kalou by-election
This comes at a time when the Ol Kalou seat is being viewed as a two-horse race between DCP’s Samuel Ngotho and Samuel Muchina Nyaga of the United Democratic Alliance, alongside nine other candidates. They are battling to replace the late David Kiaraho.
