Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has questioned claims that the massive crowd witnessed at Rigathi Gachagua’s rally, when he was Deputy President, in Karatina, Nyeri County, was organic.

Taking to his official Facebook page on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Wambugu dismissed efforts by Gachagua’s allies to portray the turnout as spontaneous, suggesting instead that significant mobilisation efforts were involved.

“And then there’s a lot of effort to ‘explain’ how that crowd was ‘organic’,” Wambugu laughed off.

Money contribution

According to the former Gachagua ally-turned-foe, politicians aspiring to vie for political seats in 2027 using the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) might have contributed money that was likely used to mobilise the crowds.

Wambugu further argued that the said aspirants might have also been given crowd targets to take to the site.

“Until you realize how much money aspirants had to contribute for mobilisation & the crowd targets they had to bring on site,” he stated.

Gachagua, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, held a rally in Karatina with his allies, drawing significant crowds.

Gachagua and his allies seized the opportunity to attack President William Ruto and his allies, with the DCP leader telling residents he had gone to cleanse the area following the head of state’s recent tour of Nyeri.

After the rally, Gachagua took to his official social media accounts to share some of the photos from the event, thanking Karatina residents for what he termed as a warm reception.

Gachagua emphasised in his post, rallying support for the ongoing fight for justice and equality. He called upon all citizens to unite in the quest for a brighter future, where every individual can thrive without fear or oppression.

“We, the people of Kenya shall not sit and watch injustice being done to anyone of us; no Kenyan deserves to die in hands of this brutal regime, every Kenyan child must go to school, and every Kenyan has a right to healthcare,” Gachagua stated.

“The people of Karatina have spoken in one solid voice; it is time for real change and liberation of our nation. Thank you, Karatina, Nyeri County, for your solidarity and warm reception. God bless you, God bless Kenya!”
