Ngirici rallies Mwea against Ruto, hints at joining Gachagua’s DCP
Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici, on Friday, May 15, 2026, intensified her attacks against President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing the government of betraying Kenyans through high fuel prices, failed promises, and poor economic policies that she said have pushed ordinary citizens into suffering.
Speaking during her “Ziara Mashinani” tours in Gathingiriri, Wamumu, and Mutithi wards in Mwea Constituency, Ngirici claimed the current regime had abandoned the promises it made during the 2022 campaigns.
She criticised the sharp rise in fuel prices, saying the cost of living had become unbearable for millions of Kenyans.
“When former President Uhuru Kenyatta was leaving office, fuel was retailing at around Sh114, but today Kenyans are buying fuel at over Ksh214. This government promised lower prices and better lives, but everything has gone up,” Ngirici said.
The former lawmaker accused the Kenya Kwanza government of crippling farmers in the rice-growing region of Mwea through uncontrolled rice importation, saying local farmers were now suffering heavy losses after imported rice flooded the market.
“They told farmers they would lower production costs and protect local produce, but today, Mwea rice has lost market value. Farmers are being forced to sell rice at as low as Sh65 because of cheap imported rice,” she stated.
Ngirici also faulted the government over delays in school capitation funds, arguing that the education sector was collapsing despite previous administrations having established stable systems.
“Kibaki and Uhuru left a very good education system where children could learn without interruptions. Today, learners are being sent home because schools have no capitation funds,” she said.

Ditching UDA
The former Woman Representative further claimed she foresaw the failures within UDA before the last General Election, insisting that is why she abandoned the ruling party and contested as an independent candidate.
Ngirici maintained that her gubernatorial victory in Kirinyaga was stolen and vowed that the same would not happen again in the coming elections.
“I saw the lies early enough and left UDA because I could not continue deceiving Kenyans. Last time my victory was stolen, but this time the people will protect their votes,” she declared.
Ngirici used the rallies to mobilise young people, especially Gen Z voters, urging them to register as voters and actively participate in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.
She cited low youth turnout during the recent Ol Kalou nominations and Emurua Dikirr by-elections as evidence that many young people were not taking part in shaping the country’s leadership.
“Gen Z cannot complain about bad governance if they are not registering and voting. The only way to remove Ruto from power is through the ballot,” she told supporters.
Ngirici hints at joining DCP
She further revealed that she had recently met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, popularly known as “Riggy G”, who also urged young people to register in large numbers.
“Yesterday I was with Riggy G, and he asked me to tell the youth to register as voters because that is the only way to make Ruto a one-term president,” she said.
Ngirici disclosed that opposition leaders were already consulting on forming a united political front that would field a single presidential candidate against Ruto in 2027.
“The opposition is working on one strong candidate because this country must change direction. Ruto must go home by all means,” she added.
While addressing supporters in the Kikuyu language, Ngirici strongly hinted at joining the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), asking residents which party they wanted her to use in her expected Kirinyaga gubernatorial bid.
She urged her supporters to remain patient, saying she had heard their calls and was preparing politically for the next battle.
“I have listened to the people, and I respect their decision. When the right time comes, I will be ready for nominations, but this time we must protect every vote,” she told the crowd.
