Ndegwa Njiru criticises Woman Rep Njeri Maina over remarks on Ruto impeachment bid
By Mabonga Makhanu, June 1, 2026Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has strongly criticised Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina after she dismissed efforts by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to initiate an impeachment motion against President William Ruto.
In a statement shared on her social media pages on Monday, June 1, 2026, the outspoken legal practitioner appeared to take issue with Maina’s remarks, in which she argued that attempts to impeach the President were politically and procedurally impossible.
Njiru described the Woman Representative as a naysayer and urged Kenyans who support the impeachment initiative not to be discouraged by leaders casting doubt on the process.
“We don’t listen to naysayers.”
According to the lawyer, those backing the proposal should focus on taking the necessary steps toward drafting the motion instead of being distracted by voices opposing the idea from the outset.
He argued that support for such an initiative could be built gradually, noting that numbers are often mobilised through a one-person-at-a-time approach. Njiru maintained that the priority should be to have the motion drafted before embarking on the task of seeking lawmakers willing to sign and support it.
“Numbers are progressively garnered via the cell concept of one reaching one principle. Let us have the motion drafted, then tutafute MPs wa kuisign. The positive mind approach principle is applicable in the circumstances,” he said
Njeri Maina’s dismissal
This comes after Njeri Maina threw cold water on the push by MP Amisi.

In a series of posts shared on her social media pages on Monday, June 2, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker explained why she believes any attempt to remove the president from office through impeachment is practically impossible under the current political circumstances.
“I have seen a section of Kenyans calling on Parliament to impeach the president. Do you think the National Assembly would have the balls for that? Let’s make a wild assumption they would. Have you actually bothered to inform yourselves on the process?” she posed.
Jane Njeri Maina went on to argue that even securing the minimum number of MPs required to initiate the process would be an uphill task.
Her comments come at a time when Caleb Amisi has intensified calls for President Ruto’s impeachment through his social media platforms. The Saboti MP has recently urged Kenyans to support what he describes as a watertight impeachment motion that could remove the head of state from office.
The debate gained momentum following reports that the government had approved the establishment of a quarantine facility by the United States government at the military airbase in Nanyuki, a move that has generated mixed reactions among Kenyans.
His urge to Kenyans

Amisi has argued that the issue raises serious concerns and has called on members of the public to submit evidence that could support an impeachment case against President Ruto. To facilitate the process, he provided an email address through which Kenyans can send information and documentation.
The MP has also vowed to address the nation on the matter, insisting that he remains committed to pursuing accountability despite growing criticism from leaders allied to the government.
