Kirinyaga Woman Rep dismisses Caleb Amisi’s push to impeach Ruto
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina has strongly dismissed ongoing calls to impeach President William Ruto, arguing that the effort being championed by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has no realistic chance of succeeding.
In a series of posts shared on her social media pages on Monday, June 2, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker explained why she believes any attempt to remove the president from office through impeachment is practically impossible under the current political circumstances.
“I have seen a section of Kenyans calling on Parliament to impeach the president. Do you think the National Assembly would have the balls for that? Let’s make a wild assumption they would. Have you actually bothered to inform yourselves on the process?” she posed.

Jane Njeri Maina went on to argue that even securing the minimum number of MPs required to initiate the process would be an uphill task.
“Let’s assume you’ve even gotten to 116 – an impossible task in every rational sense of things. Are you aware that the Speaker of the National Assembly exercises discretion on the motions that are tabled on the floor?” she stated.
Wetang’ula’s task
According to the Woman Representative, the Speaker has significant authority over parliamentary business and can determine which motions are admitted for debate.
“In layman’s terms, a Speaker controls what motion is tabled on the floor of Parliament and has unfettered authority that is almost iron-clad,” she added.

She further noted that even if the motion were to make it to the floor of the House, supporters would still need to secure a two-thirds majority vote before the matter could proceed to the Senate.
“Let’s even assume the Speaker plays ball. In your wildest dreams, you need a two-thirds vote in support of the motion for it to proceed to the Senate. Can you list for me 233 MPs who would support that motion? Hell, you can’t even list 50,” she remarked.
Caleb amisi’s impeachment push

Her comments come at a time when Caleb Amisi has intensified calls for President Ruto’s impeachment through his social media platforms. The Saboti MP has recently urged Kenyans to support what he describes as a watertight impeachment motion that could remove the head of state from office.
The debate gained momentum following reports that the government had approved the establishment of a quarantine facility by the United States government at the military airbase in Nanyuki, a move that has generated mixed reactions among Kenyans.
His urge to kenyans
Amisi has argued that the issue raises serious concerns and has called on members of the public to submit evidence that could support an impeachment case against President Ruto. To facilitate the process, he provided an email address through which Kenyans can send information and documentation.
The MP has also vowed to address the nation on the matter, insisting that he remains committed to pursuing accountability despite growing criticism from leaders allied to the government.
Whether the impeachment push gains traction remains to be seen, but Jane Njeri Maina’s remarks highlight the significant political and procedural hurdles that any such attempt would face in Parliament.
