Natembeya vows to expose Ruto-sponsored presidential candidates ahead of 2027

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has promised that the opposition will soon expose Ruto-sponsored presidential candidates within the opposition.

Speaking to a local television station on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Natembeya revealed that anyone who attempts to hold the opposition at ransom will be treated with a lot of care.

The governor insisted that Kenyans must be ready for candid revelations about political figures who may be secretly linked to the government side.

He explained that the opposition would not remain silent if certain leaders attempt to weaken their camp ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Tutatangaza wagombea ambao watakuwa projects kwa Wakenya. Ukweli wa mambo ni kwamba, ikifika 2027, kutakuwa na upande wa serikali na opposition,” he said.

Common sense inasema ya kwamba, upande wa serikali ikiwa na mtu mmoja na nyinyi kwa opposition mnaongea na sauti tano, mtashindwa tu.”

It is worth noting that the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, had claimed that Ruto has plans to sponsor a presidential candidate from Murang’a.

He compared the current situation with the era of former President Daniel Arap Moi, when divisions in the opposition caused repeated election losses.

According to Natembeya, the opposition cannot afford to repeat those mistakes if they hope to present a strong challenge in the upcoming polls.

Moreover, he pointed out that a divided front will only benefit the government, while unity will give the opposition a better chance of convincing Kenyans to embrace change.

Raila Odinga is still relevant

In his remarks, Natembeya also referred to the Orange Democratic Movement Party Leader, Raila Odinga.

“Kama Raila atakuja ajaribu na tuone ni yeye, why not. Kama atakuja na atuelezee kwa nini alikuwa ameenda ule upande mwingine wa serikali, tutamskiza,” he added.

These words suggested that while some questions remain about Odinga’s past decisions, he is still seen as an important figure within the opposition.

All the same, Natembeya maintained that loyalty to the opposition cause will be the ultimate test for any potential candidate.

He warned that the government might attempt to sponsor some leaders as a way of destabilising the opposition. He assured Kenyans that the truth about such candidates will not be hidden for long.

Natembeya’s statement comes at a time when political realignments are already taking shape, with both camps preparing for the 2027 presidential race.
