The government has stopped the Mwingi West parliamentary aspirant, Jonathan Ngenga, from handling an opening ceremony on Saturday, February 28, 2026, of a chief’s office he single-handedly helped to build in the subcounty.

Migwani Deputy Sub County Commissioner in Kitui County, Rukia Chitechi, reportedly told Engineer Ngenga to keep from involving himself in the project and stop mobilising the community to attend the launch of the Kanyaa chief’s office in the subcounty on Saturday.

Speaking to People Daily Digital on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Ngenga said that the DCC asked him to shelve his plans for the chief’s office opening ceremony until further directions.

“Yes, I have firm instructions from the Office of the President in Migwani not to go ahead and officiate the opening of the chief’s office at Kanyaa on Saturday. I facilitated the construction of the magnificent office after the residents asked me to cushion them from the burden,” Ngenga said.

Mwingi 2027 contest

The aspirant has declared to run against the incumbent MP Charles Nguna in the 2027 general election. The Wiper MP has declared to work and cooperate with President William Ruto and the administration for the benefit of his constituents.

Asked whether he will abide by the instructions or defy them, Ngenga said he will consult widely with his organisers of the event to chart a way forward.

Madam Chitechi has not responded to our enquiries on the matter by the time of going to press.

Notifying the DCC

However, Ngenga read the intrusion of local politics and Nguna’s hand in the matter as a calculated move to tame his growing popularity in the constituency. The aspirant said he had written a notification letter to the DCC about the office handing over the ceremony to the chief and the community.

Ngenga’s political coordinator in the location, Kivivya Kimanzi, alias Mama Juma, said it was a big blow to the organising committee and the community at large to fail to witness the dream come true about their chief’s office ceremony.

“Whatever the matter, it is the community that will reap the benefits and advantages of the chief’s office. On the other hand, they will lose a lot if the administration block remains unutilised,” Mama Juma said.
