Muturi pledges to keep fighting for justice following Mbeere North defeat
By Luke Oluoch, November 29, 2025Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has vowed to continue his fight for justice and the upholding of the rule of law by public institutions.
Speaking on the outcome of the hotly contested by-elections in Mbeere North on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Muturi commended the opposition’s efforts despite falling just short of victory.
Their candidate, Newton Karish, who vied on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket, narrowly lost to the United Democratic Alliance’s Leonard Wa Muthende.
The government-allied candidate was declared the winner
Quoting lines from Juliani’s song Utawala, Muturi vowed to continue fighting for justice and declared that he would not sit back and allow evil to prevail.
Violations
“We led a vigorous campaign here, and we have vowed we will not stand by and watch evil being done,” he said.
He strongly condemned the flagrant disregard for electoral rules during the voting process and hinted that the team would soon seek legal redress.
“We witnessed blatant violations of clearly established election laws. The Constitution demands a secret ballot, yet no one seemed willing to respect those laws,” he added.

His remarks come after the UDA party moved to dismiss the opposition claims of electoral malpractices during the Thursday polls.
Dismisses the opposition
Omar dismissed criticism from the United Opposition and online commentators, saying the results speak for themselves in showing the party’s growing influence.
“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party’s victory in 12 seats during the just-concluded by-elections is a clear indication that President William Ruto remains popular among Kenyans,” Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar stated.
The ruling party clinched the Baringo senate seat, where Kiprono Chemitei triumphed, while Leonard Wamuthende, David Ndakwa, and Ahmed Hassan captured the Mbeere North, Malava, and Banissa parliamentary seats, respectively.
Seek legal redress
Meanwhile, former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has urged the Democratic Party (DP) candidate Newton Karish to challenge the outcome in court.
Orwoba made the remarks during an interview on Iko Nini aired on Saturday, November 29, 2025, stressing that Karish should not let the matter rest simply because there is limited time before the general elections.
“Justice must be followed, no matter how long it takes, no matter how inconvenient it is, no matter how stupid it looks. You must pursue justice; otherwise, you will be encouraging unlawful activities during elections to keep doing what they are doing,” Orwoba said.
