Muturi accuses Kindiki of intimidation after church visit disrupted in Meru
By Mustafa Juma, March 8, 2026Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has accused Deputy President Kithure Kindiki of orchestrating political intimidation after a church visit in Buuri Constituency was reportedly disrupted on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, March 8, 2026, Muturi said he had joined leaders allied to the United Alternative Government, also known as the United Opposition, for a worship service at the East Africa Pentecostal Church Njotene Parish, where they fellowshiped with congregants.
According to the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary, the group had initially planned to attend a service at Kaaga Methodist Church before changing plans.
Heavy police contingent
Muturi claimed the change occurred after the sudden arrival of Kindiki at the church, accompanied by what he described as a large contingent of police officers.
“This morning I joined fellow leaders from the United Alternative Government in worship at the East Africa Pentecostal Church, Njotene Parish in Buuri Constituency, Meru County,” Muturi stated.
“Our plan had been to fellowship with believers at the Kaaga Methodist Church. However, the sudden arrival of the Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, accompanied by a large contingent of police officers, turned what should be a sacred space of prayer into a scene of intimidation.”
He accused the deputy president’s camp of engaging in political theatrics in places meant for worship and reflection.
“Such actions reflect malice and unnecessary political theatrics in places meant for worship and reflection,” he added.
Despite the claimed disruption, Muturi said the leaders proceeded to worship at the Njotene church, emphasising that their faith would not be shaken by political pressure.
Opposition leaders’ intimidation
This comes days after Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused President William Ruto of using his security officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, to frustrate opposition activities.
Speaking to members of the press on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Kalonzo maintained that despite the frustrations, Kenyans are united in making Ruto’s regime a one-term government.
“Ruto anatumia Waziri wake Murkomen na PS wake wa Usalama Omollo …sasa wanajaribu kila njia kuharibu mikutano ya upinzani,” Kalonzo said.
“The thing we are witnessing with William Ruto’s administration is desperation, so what we are telling him is that the country is galvanised in one agenda: that William Ruto will serve one term,” he added.
