Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda has lauded Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for his role in successfully overseeing the parliamentary Budget and Appropriations Committee where he served as the chair.

Nyoro is among the victims of the reconstitution of Committees of the National Assembly following a motion moved by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, ahead of the beginning of the house’s fourth session.

The lawmaker, however, still has a chance of retaining his position if he elects to presents himself for elections as chair or vice chair after being retained among the committee members.

Reacting to the development of looming changes in the committees, Mutinda opined that the MP should focus on the bigger and more noble role of continuing his invaluable contribution to the group even if not as the chair.

Competent

“I have served with him while serving as vice chair in the financé and budget committee. He performed well.  He’s a very competent young man. I think it is why he is still on the budget committee along with the likes of Makali Mulu. It’s a serious committee needing a lot of experience,” she said during a live interview on a local TV.

“From a political perspective, voting will happen soon after the House approves the committee. There will be lobbying, he might not get the chair seat but we don’t come to parliament as chairs or vice chairs or members of specific committees. We come to serve Kenyans as representatives.”

“You can serve Kenyan from any committee and be able to raise any matter as a committee member.  These changes occur to give other opportunities. Probably incoming chair can add better value or offer something different. We should look at it positively and not as a chair seat is only meant for a specific person,” she said.

Adding;

“Committee decisions are not the chair’s decision they are those of the whole committee. The chairs only give guidance on how the committee runs. So he still has the chance to add his own experience in committee.”

Ramifications on Ruto

Meanwhile, speaking at the same event, Former Head of Government Delivery Services Peter Mbae predicted that the shake-up exercise will come with a political price for President William Ruto.

The governance pundit weighed that developments will further alienate Mt Kenya politicians and voters from the President.

“There will be political implications for sure. A big one. The argument is even if the president said he had issues with Gachagua as a person, why punish the entire mountain by getting seats from them and giving them to ODM? People are asking, all these positions were held by prominent Mt Kenya people, why not give them to people who voted for Gachagua to go home?

“This what people are saying; the president seems he’s done with the mountain. According to him he’s done with the mountain and has now turned to other new allies towards 2027,” he added.
