Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Saturday, April 4, 2026, held a meeting with the Bukusu Council of Elders, presided over by United Opposition spokesman Mukhisa Kituyi.

The meeting took place at Mukhisa’s Mbakalo home in Tongaren Constituency and saw elders from the Bukusu community, a sub-tribe of the larger Luhya community domiciled in Bungoma County, converge to support their son’s political career, whose star appears to have begun shining.

The meeting, led by Mzee Makokha, chair of the Bukusu Council of Elders, included notable figures such as Joash Wamangoli. Kabuchai MP, who is also an integral part of the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement, was also present during the high-level sit-down.

Mukhisa Kituyi, while addressing the press after the talks, stated that the meeting was meant to provide an avenue where Sifuna, who is Bukusu, is welcomed into the community.

He also noted that, as the United Opposition, they had not found time to welcome Sifuna in their third liberation. He added that the meeting was meant to support what Sifuna is doing at the national level and in his quest to ensure that the current regime becomes a one-term government.

Sifuna, on his part, stated that during the meeting, the elders raised several issues, including the plight of Nzoia Sugar farmers who are yet to be paid their dues following the handover of the company, which has been the community’s pride, to West Kenya Sugar owner Jaswant Rai.

He added that this is just the beginning, and more meetings are expected to follow.

Kuna maswala ambayo wazee wanasema kwamba Nzoia iliuzwa, na wakulima hawajalipwa; huu ulikuwa tu mkutano wa kwanza. Mikutano mingine kwa sababu lazima tuzikize wananchi wanasema aje,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna spells doom for Ford K

During the impromptu meeting, Sifuna also took time to criticise the Ford Kenya party, led by Moses Wetang’ula, calling for an overhaul and rejection of leaders allied to the party in the county.

According to him, they have overseen atrocities inflicted on the people of Bungoma while remaining silent.

This meeting comes days after Bungoma leaders, led by Majimbo Kalasinga and his Bumula counterpart, warned that anyone from the community who does not subscribe to the “Sisi Ndio Sifuna” movement should be rejected at the ballot. They added that anybody who does not support Sifuna in Bungoma will be voted out in 2027.
