Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has described the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) victory in the Malava Constituency by-election as a resounding endorsement of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a statement posted on his official X account on November 28, 2025, Mudavadi hailed UDA candidate Hon. David Ndakwa’s triumph, declaring, “A new chapter begins in Malava! Congratulations to UDA Candidate Hon. David Ndakwa on clinching a decisive by-election victory to represent the great people of Malava in Parliament. This win is more than a political triumph; it is a strong vote of confidence and a clear call to deliver for the community that has placed its trust in you.”

Ndakwa secured 21,564 votes in the hotly contested poll held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, narrowly defeating DAP-K’s Seth Panyako who garnered 20,210 votes. The margin of victory stood at 1,354 votes.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Abdalla Salim, officially declared Ndakwa the winner on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Mudavadi, who is also the leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC) that merged with UDA earlier in 2025, framed the result as evidence of growing support for the ruling coalition in Western Kenya.

“Your victory reflects the growing confidence the people of Western continue to place in the Kenya Kwanza administration led by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto and offers an early glimpse into the political mood ahead of the 2027 elections,” he wrote.

Recognition for campaign efforts

The Prime Cabinet Secretary extended appreciation to campaign teams and supporters, stating, “My gratitude goes to everyone who contributed to this campaign in any capacity.

Your dedication, energy, and commitment were instrumental in driving this journey forward.” He further emphasised the significance of the outcome, noting, “It’s a powerful reminder that the loudest voices don’t always carry the day, real strength lies with the silent majority, who quietly but firmly shape the future at the ballot.”

Regional implications

The by-election was triggered by the vacancy left following the appointment of the former Malava MP to a state position.

Conducted amid heightened political temperatures, the poll saw reports of tension, including the withdrawal of security detail for several leaders.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, a known supporter of DAP-K’s Panyako, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya had raised concerns over the sudden recall of their security.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen later clarified that the recalls were routine and affected VIPs across the political divide. With Ndakwa now set to represent Malava in the National Assembly, the UDA victory strengthens Kenya Kwanza’s foothold in the Luhya-dominated Western region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
