MP Osoro criticises United Opposition for holding repeated closed-door meetings
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 30, 2026South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has mocked the united opposition leaders for focusing more on indoor meetings rather than engaging Kenyans at the grassroots.
In a statement shared on his social media channels on Thursday, January 29, 2026, the MP drew a parallel with President William Ruto, who, according to him, is always on the ground engaging Kenyans from different walks of life, while his competitors remain in boardrooms for meetings.
He went on to state that the united opposition is always in meetings, mocking them by saying that if they are not in a meeting, they are planning for the next one.

He specifically pointed fingers at former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s meeting with Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua, which took place a day after all the united opposition leaders held a closed-door meeting before attending the National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the Democratic Party (DP) at Mfangamano House.
He termed this as another indoor meeting instead of going to the ground to campaign, saying that the trend has been happening for the past 6 months.

“Two serious meetings took place today in different locations. It will be remembered that similar meetings under similar circumstances, conducted by the same people, have been happening similarly in the past 6 months,” Osoro stated.
This comes at a time when the United Opposition is planning a 2-day retreat in Naivasha to coin the party’s name and establish the matrix they will use to arrive at the presidential flag bearer.
Upcoming United Opposition retreat
Speaking on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during an interview with a local radio station, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said the retreat will be a critical political moment for the coalition, where leaders will lay down coalition structures, establish committees, strengthen the coalition’s brand, and officially coin the coalition’s name.

“As a coalition, we are going for a retreat on February 12 and 13 to set our structures, form our committees, agree on the name of our coalition, and settle on the formula for picking our flag bearer.”
Besides the retreat, the coalition is set to embark on a countrywide tour to sensitise the young generation to register as voters
