Uriri MP Mark Nyamita has poured cold water on the United Opposition, arguing that the grouping of leaders opposed to President William Ruto is bound to collapse because it lacks a genuine ideology.

Speaking during a political talk show aired on a local TV station on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Nyamita stated that what is being branded as a united opposition is not driven by policy or a shared vision, but rather by resentment toward the Head of State.

“I don’t know if there is anything that exists called united opposition. Hate can not bring you together for a very long time,” he said, stressing that such a force was unsustainable.

Nyamita explained that the current opposition movement is composed of leaders bound together by dislike rather than a clear political program. “United Opposition is a group of political leaders united by hate against President William Ruto and the progress of Kenya,” he stated.

He noted that cracks were already visible among those championing the opposition bloc. According to him, this was expected since the coalition was not built on common values or ideology.

“That cannot hold long, and no wonder cracks have begun to emerge,” Nyamita remarked.

The Uriri legislator further pointed out that the initial wave of enthusiasm that greeted the movement has since fizzled out. He insisted that the public had seen through the political outfit, which had failed to offer a coherent alternative.

“What brought them together was not the ideology; they are still learning from each other,” Nyamita added, noting that the lack of a unifying policy direction was undermining their strength.

On the Democratic Change Party (DCP), Nyamita said its launch was full of fanfare but has not delivered results on the political stage. “DCP that was launched with hype has failed to present credible candidates,” he said, suggesting that the outfit had not lived up to expectations.

Nyamita’s remarks come as parties gear up for the shifting landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. His criticism highlights the challenge faced by opposition leaders seeking to form a united front without a shared ideological foundation.
