Uriri MP Nyamita backs Ruto’s anti-corruption push, calls for concrete action
Uriri MP Mark Nyamita has backed President William Ruto’s renewed anti-corruption campaign, urging that the bold pronouncements made by the Head of State and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the UDA-ODM Parliamentary Group meeting must translate into decisive action.
Speaking after the particular Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting held on Monday, August 18, 2025, in Karen, Nyamita has emphasised the seriousness of Parliament’s role and warned against the dangers of it being tainted by graft.
“The institution of Parliament is a very serious one, and for it to become a den of corruption or even to be perceived as such is a grave concern,” he said on a local TV station on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
“During the PG, both President Ruto and Raila Odinga were bold on this matter of corruption, and the President has only brought this very serious discussion that people have always had behind the scenes. I hope it will not stop at the level of statements, but will be followed by concrete action,” Nyamita added.
The legislator admitted that corruption remains entrenched across government agencies, acknowledging the obstacles Ruto has encountered in trying to address it.
“Let’s be honest, there is corruption everywhere, and President Ruto himself is frustrated in the fight against it. I see a President who has faced setbacks at every level in trying to tackle graft, case in point, the implementation of SHA,” Nyamita noted.
Drawing comparisons to the past administration, Nyamita pointed out that former President Uhuru Kenyatta resorted to involving the military in executing major projects because of their discipline and efficiency.
“That is why former President Uhuru turned to the military to execute major projects, because they are highly disciplined and able to deliver within budget,” he added.
Ruto forms agency to fight graft
Nyamita’s remarks come at a time when President Ruto has vowed to intensify the war on corruption, particularly targeting unethical practices within Parliament and other state institutions. President William Ruto on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, announced the formation of a new Multi-Agency Team on War Against Corruption (MAT), amid the existence of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), in a renewed push to curb graft, economic crimes, and misuse of public resources.
