MP Majimbo Kalasinga removed from National Assembly ahead of Finance Bill vote

Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has been removed from the National Assembly in what he claims is a calculated move to influence the outcome of the Finance Bill 2026 vote.

Kalasinga, who spoke shortly his removal on Thursday, June 18, 2026, suggested that his ejection was meant to reduce opposition numbers during the critical division stage of the bill.

“Today, I’ve been thrown out from the National Assembly, and that must be a scheme that is going to reduce the ‘No’ votes of this bill because they are going to carry a division of this bill today by the end of this day,” he said.

Move to reduce anti-finance bill MPs

The MP claimed that the timing of his removal was suspicious, arguing that it targeted lawmakers opposed to the legislation as Parliament prepared for voting.

“They know very well those who are against the bill and those who are for the bill. I strongly believe that’s the reason why I’m thrown out,” he added.

Kalasinga questioned the grounds for his removal, demanding clarity from the Speaker on the specific Standing Orders used.

“I’m asking the Speaker to come out clean on what ground, which Standing Order, he was throwing me out. A House is a House of debate,” he said.

The majority votes to watch

Despite widespread public anger and a spirited Opposition campaign, President William Ruto’s administration looks poised to secure a victory today.

The “Broad-Based Government” agreement struck last year, which brought a senior, loyalist wing of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) into the government fold, has effectively insulated the Executive from the rebellion of pro-Gachagua Mt. Kenya lawmakers.

With roughly 30 MPs absent or abstaining during Wednesday’s test vote, the government’s 204-to-115 buffer remains comfortably intact.

Nevertheless, as the division bell rings in Nairobi this afternoon, the vote is less about the immediate legislative outcome and more about a definitive drawing of battle lines for the 2027 general election.
