Kiminini MP Maurice Kakai Bisau has officially thrown his hat into the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial contest ahead of the 2027 election.

He launched his bid at his Bikeke home on Monday, December 22, 2025, while hosting residents from his constituency.

Speaking during the function, the MP commended his supporters for their show of solidarity and asked them to join him in his bid for the county’s top role.

Vision for 2027

“I also humbly shared my intention to seek the Trans Nzoia County gubernatorial seat in 2027 and asked for their blessings and support as their son,” Bisau said in a statement.

Bisau, who has dubbed his transformative agenda for Trans Nzoia the Fungua Movement, stated that his tenure will focus on uplifting the lives of residents and promoting inclusivity in the cosmopolitan county.

“In a powerful show of unity, the residents unanimously declared their support for his gubernatorial bid and pledged to join the Fungua Movement—a movement dedicated to development, a strong working relationship with the national government, the eradication of poverty, and the promotion of social cohesion among all communities in Trans Nzoia County,” his statement continued.

Bisau was elected to Parliament in 2022 on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket. He is the latest politician to challenge the incumbent Governor George Natembeya, following former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha and former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.

Nakhumicha eyeing governor’s seat

Nakhumicha, while divulging her ambitions to head the county on Saturday, December 20, 2025, shared a vision of establishing a people-centered governance if elected the first woman governor of Trans Nzoia.

“In 2027, I will have ambitions of leading this county as the governor. I am working with President William Ruto for development. Trans Nzoia has lagged, with the governor only prioritising projects that benefit him and county staff solely.

“So far, the only projects undertaken in the county are the construction of county government offices, which are for the governor and his people. There have been no projects for the residents of the county. So, I want to appeal to the people here that I am ready to work for them as the governor,” she lamented.
