MP Gitonga Mukunji spells doom for UDA ahead of Mbeere North minipoll
By David Nthua, November 19, 2025Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has delivered some bad news to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party ahead of the Mbeere North by-election.
Mukunji, who spoke to a local TV station on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, stated that it will not be a walk in the park for the yellow-based party as voters prepare for the mini poll.

In his remarks, the legislator said he was confident that UDA would not secure victory in the upcoming contest.
“I wanted to confirm that, UDA Party cannot win the Mbeere North mini poll. I come from Embu, and I can say that confidently,” he said.

Mukunji further noted that residents in the region had already demonstrated resistance to government policies.
He recalled a past visit by the Head of State in Embu County, saying, “We were the first people to tell off the President when he came to tell us how the SHA is working, and it is not working.

“We were the first ones to say that instead of putting money in housing, and dishing it in the State House, put that into water and roads, and we clearly put that,” Mukunji added.

The MP also addressed questions about what would happen if the UDA candidate won the mini poll. He maintained that the outcome would only be confirmed during the vote.
“I believe that we should just wait for the election on November 27, 2025. In all polls that have been done, we are doing well, in the united opposition,” he stated.
Mukunji added that attendance at UDA rallies does not necessarily reflect genuine support.
He said, “All those people you see attending those rallies for the UDA Party, they go there for money, and immediately the convoy leaves, you hear them shouting Wantam (One-term).”

He linked the by-election to a political test for the Head of State, arguing that the seat fell vacant due to the President’s own political strategy.
“Mbeere North by-election has been brought about by President Ruto, he’s trying to see if he has influence,” Mukunji said.
The Mbeere North mini poll is scheduled for November 27, 2025.
