Former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria has slammed the impeachment of the former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, terming it as untimely and unnecessary.

Speaking in a morning interview at a local TV station on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Kuria noted that the impeachment of Gachagua came at a time when it was unnecessary, noting that he was against the impeachment of the former DP despite the fallout between him and President Ruto.

Kuria has added that President Ruto was impatient with his then Deputy President and was quick to act.

“I was opposed to the impeachment motion and even spoke against it. I tried to convince members of parliament that the impeachment of rigathi gachagua ws not in the best interest. We should have tried to control the damage before it worsened. According to me, the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua was untimely and unnecessary,” Kuria said.

Kuria has revealed that the president was not happy with Rigathi Gachagua following a press conference he held in Mombasa, which was held amidst the Gen-Z protests, and parallel to the president’s address, a move that did not go well with the president.

Kuria has further stated that he was against the impeachment and even tried calling leaders from the Mount Kenya region and the Rift Valley to convince them to consider dropping the impeachment motion.
