Morara Kebaso: Fred Matiang’i is the only one who can fix Kenya

By , July 18, 2026

Borabu MP aspirant Morara Kebaso has publicly thrown his weight behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s presidential bid, describing him as the most capable candidate to lead Kenya and pledging to mobilise support for his election.

In a statement on his X account on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Kebaso said Matiang’i had an unmatched track record compared to other presidential hopefuls and called on his supporters to rally behind the former cabinet secretary.

“Fred Matiangi needs strong soldiers who are loyal and true. His performance record stands head and shoulders above any candidate from any movement or coalition,” Kebaso said.

Campaigns towards 2027 polls

He vowed to campaign relentlessly for Matiang’i, expressing confidence that he is the right leader to steer the country out of its current challenges.

“We will work tirelessly day and night to ensure that he becomes the president of Kenya. He is the only one who can fix the mess,” he added.

Kebaso also extended an olive branch to leaders who have already endorsed other presidential contenders, saying he remains open to coalition talks ahead of the next general election.

“To those who have endorsed other candidates we wish you well. We hope to form a coalition and work together but if negotiations fail, tutapatana kwa debe,” he said.

Morara leaving Inject party for Jubilee

The support for Matiang’i comes months after Kebaso defected from his INJECT Party to the Jubilee Party.

Kebaso defended his sudden defection, revealing that the immense grassroots influence of former Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i forced him to abandon his independent political vehicle.

Speaking during a live television interview on Wednesday night, July 8, 2026, Morara laid bare the strategic calculations that led him to dissolve his youthful Inject Party, a move that has recently drawn fierce criticism from supporters who accused him of betraying the anti-establishment ethos of the country’s youth movement.

Morara argued that the realities of rural political mobilisation require a stark departure from purely ideological activism, particularly within his native Gusii region.

“There is a difference between the Kenya we want and the Kenya that we are living in,” Morara Kebaso noted.

“The Kenyan that we are living in when I go to the village to talk to wamama pale Kiabonyoro ward, she tells me anataka salamu ya Matiang’i na anataka kuniona kwa kofia ya red. So sometimes I may have very brilliant ideas, but nobody in the village is gonna listen to these brilliant ideas if I don’t come in a red cap na nisipoleta salamu ya Dr Fred Matiang’i. So we have to be practical,” he added.
